What about digital art?
What about digital art? Is digital art less of an art because one’s manipulations pass through a machine?
It is a hard line to draw because it is not very clear. One could ask similar questions about painters who don’t mix their own oils and it might seem facetious. But if you advance along the spectrum at some point it doesn’t appear as ridiculous. Acoustic guitar is not inherently more artful than the electric guitar. And most who listen to Jimi Hendrix don’t understand the design of the fuzz pedal or Leslie speaker he used. It gets messy quickly!
Thankfully there are philosophic considerations to help us. In fact, one by a personal favorite thinker of mine, Walter Benjamin. (Who, BTW, would definately be arguing against me here.)
